Bend Chiropractor | Dr. Daniel Bourque
“My friends and family thought I was crazy…”
I was only 25, far too young to be living in pain and avoiding favorite activities. Continuous medication or “waiting until it got bad enough for surgery” was unacceptable to me. I made the decision to seek out a chiropractor and was amazed that within a short time I was feeling as well as I ever had and eager to try new challenges. In just over a year I had initiated major changes in my life and lifestyle that brought me to the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California.
My time in the Sierras was a time of work, play, and personal exploration. A chiropractor friend helped me to stay well and inspired me to look into this profession further. I was considering entering the contracting business when a severe brain injury to one of my brothers in the summer of 1993 forced me to reconsider and gave me the shove I needed to take the next step and return to school after 10 years and begin the process of learning necessary to master this profession. Little did I know what that entailed.
Bend Chiropractor : Education
I began my pre-chiropractic education at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire and at Butte College in Oroville, California. After earning a Bachelors of Science and completing courses in many disciplines including chemistry, organic chemistry, physics, biology, psychology, and basic human anatomy, I was accepted at Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, Oregon. During my four years at WSCC I studied anatomy, human physiology, radiology (X-ray), biochemistry, diagnosis, clinical nutrition, chiropractic adjusting techniques, and 2 years of patient care in the WSCC clinics. I ultimately graduated Cum Laude and in the top ten in my class, ready to begin my career as a chiropractor. I sought out a practice opportunity in Bend where we are to this day.
My Chiropractic Practice Mission
My practice mission is to enhance the well-being and improve the quality of life for my community and practice members through service and education.
I specialize in sports and auto injuries and especially enjoy family wellness practice. I see our office as a resource for the reclaiming of your health and a support system for families along the journey to a chiropractic lifestyle and the enjoyment of all that entails. We have a strong philosophy rooted in the holistic model that the body is a self healing, self regulating organism that functions at its best in the absence of interference.
The Personal Side
I was born and raised in New England, primarily in New Hampshire. In my twenties I migrated west, looking for big mountains and big rivers. These and the open spaces of the west enthrall me to this day. I am married to Karima and have two daughters, Kyra and Anneli. We love Bend and all of the wonderful opportunities for recreation in the great outdoors. Mountain biking, skiing, fly fishing for trout and steelhead, swimming, hiking and camping are some of the activities we love to participate in.
My family gets adjusted regularly. In fact, both of my daughters were adjusted within minutes of their births and are adjusted at least weekly ever since. These kids have never had ear infections, colic, and any sniffles are processed and gone very quickly. I attribute their good health to never having any vaccinations and to optimally functioning nervous systems due to regular chiropractic checkups and adjustments. I especially enjoy seeing people overcome health issues they had become resigned to. The surprise and delight of someone realizing that they are physically capable of things they had long ago given up or the joy of seeing your child resume playful behavior he had abandoned for no apparent reason.
