Chiropractic Care for Carpal Tunnel

Carpal tunnel is a problem that is gaining traction over the years as we spend most of our time in sedentary jobs, working away at a computer. In these environments, most our back, hands and eyes bear the brunt of the stress.

What Is Carpal Tunnel?

Carpal TunnelCarpal tunnel refers to a condition in which the nerve within the wrist gets pinched as a result of excessive use. Carpal tunnel occurs in adults on the dominant hand. Women are more likely to contract carpal tunnel. The issue is most prevalent in adults who work in environments with repetitive tasks such as sewing, cleaning, meatpacking, or manufacturing.

The compression of the median nerve, within a tunnel in the wrist, occurs as a result of compression of nerves ligament tendons or blood vessels. This can result in pain, numbness, and weakness in grip.

Chiropractic Treatments for Carpal Tunnel

Often, the effects of carpal tunnel are increased as a result of the misalignment of the spine. Adjustments to the spine may contribute to the improvement of the ailment. The adjustment is typically done by hand but may involve some devices should the need arise.

Wrist Support

Wrist supports are specifically designed to maintain the alignment of the wrist after the chiropractor has made adjustments to it. The patient is required to wear it for a specified amount of time after the correction in order to make sure no further injury occurs as it is healing.

Ultrasound Therapy

This includes the emission of a low or high energy sound, which is outside the range of human hearing. This sound, which cannot be detected by the average human ear, penetrates into the body tissue in order to reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and relax muscles.

One thing that is a given with carpal tunnel is consistent rest after the correction has been done. Efforts will have to be made in order to reduce the stress and pressure that is typically on the wrist.
